Harare to Kariba

The drive from Harare to Kariba is approximately 5 hours.

  1. Drive along the main Harare – Chirundu road and turn left at the Kariba signpost just before the Makuti Garage and Hotel, this is approximately 295 km from Harare, about 3 hours travel time.
  2. Once you have turned left, drive down the escarpment towards Kariba, this section takes approximately 1 hour.
  3. You will pass the Kariba airport and Nyamunga Township on your left, continue towards the Kariba Dam Wall.
  4. Once you reach a ‘T’ junction turn left (right takes you to the Kariba Heights) travel 1.4 km, passing a Zuva fuel station on your right.
  5. Turn left on to Sable Drive (ZESA Offices are opposite the turning).
  6. Take the second left turning after approximately 400m. (The SWIFT Depot is on the corner)
  7. Travel 1.1 km and turn right on Mhembwe Close.
  8. Natureways is sign posted on the left hand side.
 

Approaching from the Kariba Dam Wall
The drive from the Kariba Dam Wall is approximately 10 minutes.

  1. Continue straight on the road from the Dam Wall, take the second road on the right hand side onto Sable Drive, ZESA offices are directly opposite the turning on the left hand side. Take the second left turning after approximately 400m. (The SWIFT Depot is on the corner)
  2. Travel 1.1 km and turn right on Mhembwe Close.
  3. Natureways is sign posted on the left hand side.

NYAMEPI, MANA POOLS MAIN CAMP

The drive from Harare to Mana Pools takes approximately 7 hours.

  1. Drive along the main Harare – Chirundu road, you will pass the Makuti Garage and Hotel, this is approximately 295 km from Harare, about 3.5 hours travel time. Continue past Makuti to Marangora National Parks office (GPS Co-ordinates: -16° 13′ 23.63″, +29° 9′ 40.69″).
    • Please stop at the Marongora National Parks office, which is easy to find, on the left hand side after Makuti, it is sign posted. There you must ask for a permit to enter the park (you do not have to pay anything at this point) present your Travel Voucher to confirm that you are on a Natureways Safari and give them the dates. You have to have a permit to enter the Park.
  2. From Marongora continue towards Chirundu down the escarpment, through the Tsetse Fly Control Point after which you turn right onto a dirt road to Mana Pools, it is clearly sign posted
    • At the turning point onto the dirt road you will come across the first of two security booms (Chimutsi Gate). You will have to show the entry permit you got from Marongora.
  3. After the first boom follow the road until you reach the second boom (Nyakasikana) from here you will turn left and continue on to the Wardens Head Office at Nyamepi.
  4. Follow the signs that will take you to the Warden’s Head Office at Nyamepi, where Natureways staff will meet you and assist you with making National Parks Entry, Conservation and Camping Fee payments. Please ensure that you have the correct I.D. if you are to pay Zimbabwe Resident Rates i.e. ID or Passport. You will leave your car in the car park here and Natureways will drive you to the camp.
  5. At the end of your safari Natureways will transfer you back to the Nyamepi office to collect you car at approximately 11am. Please advise us in advance if you need to leave earlier or later.

PLEASE NOTE: The dirt roads leading into Mana Pools can be sandy and corrugated, depending on the time of year. Please observe the speed limit and take care!
